Crop Planting Temperatures

Soil temperature should be at a minimum temperature or above for at least 2 or 3 days prior to planting in the spring.  Check soil temperature at a 2 inch depth between 10:00 a.m. and noon.

Minimum soil temperatures for planting are:

  • Corn 
    50 degrees F
  • Soybeans  
    55-60 degrees F
  • Grain Sorghum
    65-70 degrees F
  • Sunflowers
    50-60 degrees F
  • Cotton
    65-70 degrees F
